Cosmosis
I have long been fascinated by the prospect of photography reaching the level of painting. Many of my more abstract photographs have had this in mind when I’ve made them. However, what I did here, was take an actual acrylic painting that I made, and photograph it, and see how it stands up as a photograph.
I must admit that I like the way it turned out. This was originally blue and white. But I converted it to black and white. It works much better this way, I think.

Tikal - Ancient Mayan Dwellings
"Set in the jungle canopy, the site today consists of over 3,000 buildings, including a handful of impressively tall temples that tower above the forest. At its peak some 1,500 years ago, Tikal was home to an estimated 100,000 Mayans.
As is the case with all Mayan sites, the origins of Tikal are only barely discernible. Findings of pottery dating from a few hundred years before Christ give evidence that Tikal was inhabited then. By the time of Christ, the Great Plaza had already taken its basic form, with platforms and stairways on the north side."

Old Stuff
For some reason, shooting old rusted metal objects from a time gone by is fascinating to me. Maybe, it’s trying to preserve a feeling, a sentiment, a history of a time when things seemed so much simpler. Either way, I love the way old things look when photographed in black and white. It seems rather ironic that I’d be shooting them with a digital camera and trying to make the photos look vintage. A few weeks ago, I went out to the desert and I wandered through the Joshua Tree swap meet and I found all kinds of interesting things to photograph. The following are a few of those photographs that I shot on New Years Eve, 2006.
